Introduction

Department of Business Administration of Nanhua University was founded in 2000, and Graduate Institute of Management was established in the same time. In 2002, we have the honor to receive the approval from Minister of Education to originate the Ph.D. program. In 2003 Graduate Institute of Management Science was reorganized and renamed from Graduate Institute of Management. In 2007, Department of Business Administration and Graduate Institute of Management Science was integrated. There are three programs in it, including bachelor’s program, Master’s program and Ph.D. program.

Department of Business Administration provides multi-directional and high quality of management-related knowledge to specialize students qualified for the competitive business world. Through case discussion and Enterprise visit, we expect to train students’ ability of independent thinking and teamwork sprit. Based on the concepts of combining theory and practice together, we provide courses in marketing management, production management, human resource management, financial management and information management. In addition, we also put following areas of studies into our learning courses.

 Bachelors program

The undergraduate programs in business management/in-service undergraduate program are for BBA. The educational goals are to cultivate business venture and management talents with abilities of communication and cooperation to organize HR management and plan marketing for the service sector. Course features: Managerial Economics, Management Accounting, Business Ethics, Marketing Management, Applied Statistics, Operations Management, Financial Management, Organizational Behavior, Strategic Management are core courses. Among the major compulsory courses, interdisciplinary business venture program is planned, which covers some practice courses which focus on discussion of individual cases and practice topics to improve student abilities of creation, strategy application, communication, teamwork, and enhance their abilities of planning, analysis, diagnosis and decision making.

 

To ensure the curriculum can be designed to cultivate core competencies of the students, the undergraduate program in business management/in-service undergraduate program consist of Strategic Management, Seminar on Management Practices (1) and Seminar on Management (2) which are capstone course. The capstone course specifies standard to examine the six core competencies. The teachers examine whether students have the 6 core competencies according to the unified standards. The above core management courses and practice course can make students acquire necessary professional knowledge and skills. The graduates can continue to select further education or become the social or market junior manpower.

 Masters program

The Master's Program in Management is for MBA. The educational goals are to cultivate business management talents with abilities of communication, cooperation and conscious learning. Course features: Research Methodology, Service Management, Management Science and Seminar on Operations are the compulsory courses, and Marketing Management, Business Ethics, Operations Management, Financial Management, Organizational Behavior, Strategic Management, Managerial Economics, Management Accounting and Applied Statistics are core courses which are listed as the threshold for graduation. For Managerial Economics, Management Accounting and Applied Statistics, the students can obtain advanced credits by review of their university (college) transcripts or passing the examinations. Optional courses are not divided into modules, including Decision Making, Statistic Method and Data Analysis, Multivariate Analysis, Qualitative Research, Systematic Thinking, Market Analysis, Investment Analysis, HR Management, HR Development, Motivation and Leadership, Performance Management, Innovation and Business Venture Management, Project Management, Knowledge Management and Electronic Commerce, and the professors tutor optional courses according to their study fields.

In order to ensure the curriculum can be designed to cultivate 6 core competencies of the students, Master's Program in Management consists of the Strategic Management and the Master's Thesis as capstone course which specify the standard to examine the 6 core competencies, and teachers, advising professors and interview committee members examine whether the students have the 6 core competencies as per the standards.

The Master’s Program in Non-profit Organization Management/in-service Program is for MBA. The educational goals are to cultivate business management talents with abilities of communication, cooperation and conscious learning, the course features: Non-profit Organization Management, Research Methodology, and Non-profit Organization Fundraising as compulsory courses, and Marketing Management, Business Ethics, Operations Management, Financial Management, Organizational Behavior, Strategic Management, Managerial Economics, Management Accounting and Applied Statistics are core courses which are listed as threshold for graduation. For Managerial Economics, Management Accounting and Applied Statistics, the students can obtain advanced credits by review of the university (college) transcripts or passing the examinations; Optional courses are not divided into modules, including Public-Private Partnership, Government Reformation, Multivariate Analysis, Qualitative Research, Organization Performance and Evaluation, Non-Profit Organization HR Management, Non-Profit Organization Policy Advocacy, Organization Development and Reformation, Non-Profit Organization Leadership and Governance, Seminar on Social Businesses, Thinking on Innovation and Design, Social Innovation Management, Plan Design and Evaluation,  Gerontology and Social Welfare, Elderly Care and Long-Term Care, and the advising professors tutor the optional courses according to the study fields. For Master's Program in Non-profit Organization Management/In-service Program, the course features are to: (1) integrate the teaching and curriculum design with humanities, liberal arts and management, (2) focus on Taiwan context and interdisciplinary research and academic development application, and (3) combine local features with management practice, service and social involvement.

 Doctors program

The Doctorate Program in Management is for Ph. D. The educational goals are to cultivate senior decision makers with abilities of innovative research, conscious learning, communication and cooperation. Thus, the program is designed to select Optimization Theory, Research Methodology and Newspaper Discussion as compulsory courses. The Newspaper Discussion course is compulsory course in each semester, and only this course has a maximum of four credits. In order to enhance research and analysis abilities of the students, 3 of 6 courses such as Qualitative Research, Structural Equation Modeling, Econometrics, Multi-variable Theory, Operational Research Theory and Management Decision Theory are selected as compulsory courses; The optional courses include seminar courses, including the seminars on Marketing, HR Management, Business Ethics, Financial Management, Organization Behavior, Marketing Research, HR Development, Strategic Management, Performance Management, Organization Theory, Operations Management, Information Management, Knowledge Management, as well as Sampling Investigation Theory, Regression Theory, Systematic Thinking and Decision Making, Data Analysis and Statistical Decision, and Statistical Theory. The students select the optional courses, and advising professors tutor the optional course in terms of their study fields.
